Thegreatest revolutions that have occurred were started throughparticular words that were uttered by some individuals, which eitherunited or popularized people. has been perceived as apowerful tool in mending and breaking relationships. This has beenmade possible by either the use of confirmation or disconfirmationlanguage in communication. Disconfirmation is a type of communicationwhere someone’s presence and message is ignored through the use ofsome language, which is considered ableism, ageism, sexist, racistand heterosexist(Kanu, 2011).These are the five languages that are used to disconfirm.

Tobegin with, ableism is a kind of language that discriminates againstindividuals with disabilities. Secondly, racist language is one thatis used to express an ethnic community as inferior to another.Thirdly, heterosexist language is one that is unkind to homosexualpeople while ageism is one that is used against individuals of thedifferent age group in a way that seems rude. Finally, sexistlanguage, which discourages or puts people down depending on theirgender (Kanu,2011).When an individual uses these tones in a language, they discouragefurther progress of communication, hence they are termed asdisconfirmation (Kanu,2011).

Onthe other hand, an individual can confirm a message. This is activelistening through showing concern, appreciation, and understanding(Kanu,2011).An individual can confirm a message through recognizing the presenceof his/her counterpart. This is a situation where an individualbecomes active in a conversation. Subsequently, a person needs toacknowledge and endorse the message. It can be achieved by beingemotionally involved and either responding in a way that promotes theconversation (Kanu,2011).Thus, when you perform these acts recognize, acknowledge, andendorse in a communication that is confirmation.
