Instructional Materials – Computer Based Training

Introductory Statement:

  • The purpose of this computer based training is to train participants on how to change a tire and the tools they should always carry with them, in case of an unexpected flat tire.

Rationale for the Training:

  • People need to know how to change a tire.

  • At times one may experience a flat tire in a location where there are no roadside assistance services that can fix the problem, or the services may be miles away, meaning that one has to wait on the roadside for hours.

  • Hence, participants should learn how to change a tire, to ensure that they are well prepared and can complete the task without assistance.

Written Analysis:

  • Any individual of legal driving age is able to take part in the training program and comprehend the material provided in the presentation.

  • This program would be helpful to parents and driving instructors as they can use the information to train new drivers on the process of changing a tire.

  • First time drivers can also use the information to train themselves on how to change tires.

  • The training is completed using a computer with internet connectivity. Participants may also be required to have a spare tire and tools needed to change a tire.

Terminal Objective:

  • All participants will become capable of changing a flat tire, by following all the required steps to ensure that the spare tire is properly fixed and working effectively.

Enabling Objectives:

  • Participant will be aware of the tools they need to carry to ensure they are able to change a flat tire.

  • There are a number of steps to be followed when changing a tire. Participants will become knowledgeable of all the steps and be able to follow each step without skipping or mixing up the steps.

  • Participants will recognize the tools needed at every step and how to use them to successfully change a flat tire.

Procedural :

    • Computer based training program topic and purpose.

    • Goals for the participants.

  • Topic 1 – Items needed when fixing a flat tire.

    • Quick check

  • Topic 2 – Steps involved in changing a tire and what to do at every step.

    • Find a safe location

    • Turn hazard lights on

    • Apply parking brake

    • Use wheel wedges

    • Remove wheel cover

    • Loosen lug nuts

    • Place jack under the vehicle

    • Use the jack to raise the vehicle

    • Unscrew lug nuts

    • Remove the flat tire

    • Mount the spare tire on lug bolts

    • Tighten the lug nuts

    • Lower vehicle using jack and tighten lug nuts again

    • Replace the hubcap

    • Stow all equipment
