Registered nursesare required to meet the set standards established by the Australianhealth Practitioner Regulatory Agency (AHPRA). The process ofpreparing for the graduate practice requires an individual to beconversant with various discipline-specific professional standards.This paper will involve a self-assessment of the strengths,priorities for further development as well as the strategies requiredin preparation for AHPRA registration.

In assessing myprogress with regards to the preparation for graduate practice, Ihave been able to learn extensively about discipline-specificknowledge and clinical reasoning. For every nursing student preparingfor the registration process, it is necessary to identify theimportance of professional practices, as well as the provision ofcoordination of care (NMBA, 2015). In the process, I have become wellconversant with the problem-solving techniques that are essential inensuring that patients are provided with the most appropriatetreatment regimens. Additionally, I have interacted with others andappreciated the role of teamwork in ensuring that the healthobjectives are attained within the given timeline. Finally, it isimportant to conduct adequate research and develop effectivecommunication skills to facilitate the flow of information within abusiness organization (NMBA, 2014). From my experience, I haveinculcated varying levels of personal understanding towards some ofthe variables that are considered to be necessary for the preparationfor graduate practice.

There are varioustypes of professional standards that nursing professionals arerequired to adhere to. The professionalism of the nurses is givenutmost importance. There are ten conduct statements. Some of theareas that I can state to have attained high levels of understandingare the wellbeing of patients and informed decision making concerningthe provision of care to the patients (NMBA, 2015). In my capacity, Ihave faced instances whereby it was necessary to inform an individualwho needed nursing care about the most appropriate treatment. I usedmy role as a nursing professional to inform them of the requirementto utilize the recommended care system. In another instance, I dealtwith a child who was unable to speak independently about hersituation. In this case, I ensured that her opinion was representedby a suitable advocate. I was, therefore, able to make sure that thewell-being and decision-making process of the patients were given thehighest significance.

However, despiteadhering to the codes of conduct of the nursing profession, I feelthat there are areas that require further development. One of suchinstances involves the protection of the individuals receivingtreatment and care. As such, it is necessary to take actions thatwould ensure that the safety of the patients is guaranteed (NMBA,2014). There was a scenario in which the patient felt that badprejudicial attitudes towards their lifestyle had curtailed theirreceipt of care. Nevertheless, I have been able to identify the rightchoice of words when dealing with the patients to ensure that they donot feel discriminated.

Variousstrategies are necessary in preparation for the AHPRA registration(AHPRA, 2016). These procedures assist an individual in theirpersonal preparations towards new graduate practices. To begin, thereare several stages of the registration process that each applicationhas to go through. These include assessment and the decision by thenational board. Others include the registration, submission, andevaluation of the submission. The common certification standards thatmust be adhered to include identification of rules associated withcriminal records of the applicants, and recency of practice. I have,therefore, developed the appropriate strategies to ensure that theAHPRA registration process is complete.
