Module 3 Assignment: Information Retrieval Paper – Part 1

Submitby 2359 (CT) Saturday at the close of Module 3.

Overview:“Information Retrieval Paper – Part 1”

ThisModule you will begin to develop an Information Retrieval Paper. ThisAssignment focuses on identifying appropriate evidence-based nursingpractices related to specific problems you may identify as you workin the healthcare/workplace setting.

Thegoals of an Information Retrieval Paper are to (1) practice using APAformat, (2) summarize and examine the strengths and limitations ofresearch articles, and (3) prepare you for the Nursing ResearchCourse where you will write a research paper using the skills youhave learned completing this Information Retrieval Paper.

Asa part of your Information Retrieval Paper, you will begindevelopment of a research question using PICO format. Chapter 10 ofthe Role Development text book explains PICO. Be sure to develop yourresearch question and then just below your research questiondelineate what the P, I, C, and O components of your question are.

Forthis Module 3 Assignment you will prepare a Title Page in proper APAformat for your Information Retrieval Paper, identify threepeer-reviewed articles, and summarize each article using APA format.

Itmay be helpful to look at the outline for the entire paper before youbegin this Module’s Assignment. Assignments in this Module plus inModule 4 and 5 will address the Information Retrieval Paper.

Part1: Research Problem and Question using PICO Format

  1. In the space below, identify the clinical problem in the workplace setting that will serve as the focus of your information retrieval paper. Make sure that the problem is one that would be under your complete control as a nurse.

ClinicalProblem (Type in box below)

Bedsores in the dying/ Kennedy Ulcers

  1. In the space below, compose a preliminary research question about the clinical problem that you identified in the workplace. Use this criteria in composing a preliminary research question:

-Question must relate to a clinical problem in the workplace.

-Question cannot be answered with a simple yes or no.

-The issue to be studied is under your complete control as a nurse.

-The question is open ended.

Delineatethe PICO components of your question.

    • State your question

    • Then under the question

I(intervention) =

C(comparator) =

O(outcome) =

PreliminaryResearch Question and Identified PICO Criteria (Type in box below)

Willa comprehensive discharge planning and after hospital careintervention reduce re-admissions within 30 days?

Theidentified PICO criteria

P:Population- the research question suits all kinds of population. It cuts across both gender and age groups.

I:Intervention- there has been several research by scientist toanswer this big question. The project in December 2012 received anexempt quality status from the IRB thus, the work continued in 2013.

C:comparison- Research done by the scientists indicate that up to90% of hospital readmission within a period of one month of dischargeis not planned. Receiving of high quality and and evidence based careafter discharge, during discharge and during hospitalization can helpthe older patients to reduce the period. As compared to thehistorical data from the baseline, the quality transition programutilizes a pre-post design to evaluate effects of an evidence basedapproach

O:Outcome- The components of the project were presented as part ofthe podioum panel in the 2013 NICHE conference and at the 2013 magnetconference in Philadelphia and Orlando respectively. The outcome ofthe research was the invention of the intensive medication programthat helped in the comprehensive discharge of patients after hospitalcare intervention.

  1. Compose a rationale that explains why you chose the research question. (Type in box below)

Rationalefor Selecting the Research Question (Type in box below)

Morethan 17 billion dollars has been estimated to be the annual cost toMedicare for the readmission. The rationale for selecting thisresearch question is to give a better option that can help to reducereadmission which has proved for many years to be very expensive.

  1. After completing this portion of the Assignment, go to this module’s Discussion, and follow the directions for sharing your research question. After receiving feedback from your colleagues, revise your research question, if necessary, in the space provided.

RevisedResearch Question (Type in box below)

  1. Complete after participating in the Module 3 Discussion. Type your revised Research Question in the box provided below.

Part2: Title Page Components

Inthis part of the Assignment, you will record the parts of the titlepage for your Information Retrieval Paper by typing into the textboxes in the graphic organizer that follows the instructions chart.
